Matava - The Astrolabe Hideaway is located on Fiji's fourth largest island of Kadavu. Kadavu is located approximately 100 kilometres south of the main island of Viti Levu and is one of the few remaining undeveloped islands in Fiji today. Kadavu is renowned for it's world class diving and the affordable fiji accommodation of Matava is only minutes away from the Great Astrolabe Reef, home to an abundance of marine life unequalled in Fiji. Divers and snorkellers can expect a diversity of fish life and corals of every conceivable colour and hue.
Getting to Matava is easy with daily flights from either Nadi or Nausori airports, then a boat transfer from Kadavu airstrip to the resort of Matava. Matava is well worth the visit as the Astrolabe Reef offers not only excellent diving, but also surfing on the three breaks on the reef that produce 2-12ft waves (advanced surfing skills required). Guests at Matava can also enjoy a walk through the rainforest ascending to the hills, revealing the stunning views of the reef. The island also offers mountainous jungles and waterfalls plummeting from the hilltops. There are no roads around Matava, only a network of paths that link one village to the next. Matava is a true Fijian experience and eco-hideaway.
The beach in front of Matava - The Astrolabe Hideaway Resort is a brown sand beach extending out into a seagrass/coral marine reserve. The little island opposite the resort, Waya Island, is also in the marine reserve and has three white sand beaches which guests are welcome to use. Free kayaks are provided for guests wishing to paddle over and spend time there relaxing, snorkeling or even getting married!

Matava Resort offers accommodation for up to 22 guests in lush tropical surroundings. Guests can drift to sleep to the soothing roar of the waves and be awakened to the call of the exotic native wildlife.
Accommodation is in traditional thatched Fijian 'bures', featuring timber polished floors, louver windows, timber four poster beds and private decks. These bures are nestled in the rainforest to offer privacy, comfort and superb ocean views. Solar power provides the lighting and gas heats the water in each private bure.
Waterfront Bures: Nestled along the foreshore, immersed in beautiful tropical gardens and surrounded by lush rainforest. These bures are available with shared facilities. Bedding is 1 Double Bed OR 1 Double Bed + 1 Single Bed. Maximum room capacity is 3 People.
Oceanview Bures: Offers spectacular panoramas of The Great Astrolabe Reef and surrounding offshore islands. These bures have private bathroom facilities. Bedding is 1 Double Bed + 1 Single Bed. Maximum room capacity is 3 People.
Honeymoon Bure: Boasts a private location with excellent views looking out to the reef. This bure has private bathroom facilities. Bedding is 1 Double Bed. Maximum room capacity is 2 People.
Chalet House: Bedding is 1 Double Bed. Maximum room capacity is 3 People.

Dining

Meals at Matava are an imaginative blend of local and international cuisine. Dining takes place on the balcony of the 'bure levu', one of Fiji's largest traditional structures where guests gather for papaya salad, mango chicken, coconut curries and sashimi while sharing conversation and friendship.
Local seasonal delicacies are always found in the menu as well as the daily fresh produce, which incorporates locally grown organic tropical fruit and vegetables, home style freshly baked breads and muffins and freshly caught seafood like tuna, trevally, lobster and walu (Spanish mackeral). Scrumptious lovo feasts, a traditional Fijian meal cooked over hot stones in the ground, are held once a week, usually accompanied by a kava session. Matava Resort caters for vegetarians and those with special dietary requirements.
Meal Packages: Meals are offered as a package. Comprising a continental style breakfast, lunch, and a three - course dinner extravaganza. Matava's Fijian staff will put a smile on your face and make sure you will love the food as much as they love preparing it for you.

Diving: Matava Resort is only minutes from the Great Astrolabe Reef. It is the world's fourth largest barrier reef and is Fiji's largest living organism. It extends along the entire southern side of Kadavu and stretches for over 120km. It is rated as one of the world's premier diving locations offering a great diversity and spectacle in coral structures and marine life.

They cater for all levels of divers from beginner to experienced and take you to sites varying in depths, currents and visibility ranging from 20 - 50 m! You can expect a kaleidoscope of colourful corals and wonderful marine life. Matava Resort has over 20 world-class sites offering enormous variety for divers of all levels within a 5-minute to half hour boat ride. As a PADI Certified Resort, Matava offers a full range of PADI dive certification. Guests can take a fully certified PADI open water dive course or you can further your qualifications with an advanced rescue or divemaster course. The latest in diving equipment including Mares BCDs, regulators and wetsuits as well as masks, fins and dive computers are all available for hire, or you can bring your own dive gear.
